The rains did play a terrible trick on us but the treat was that the Malbec held up just fine. Today we picked 4.6 tons of Malbec from the Mello vineyard, a small family owned vineyard located in Yountville where the Clone # 6 Malbec is planted on well drained, alluvial soils. Even though Malbec has a thin skin it has a very deep, dark color and can be very tannic if it is left unattended. We will monitor this final ferment very closely. It is always hard to explain the feeling of happiness and relief that is felt when the final grapes make it to the winery.
